Susie Stern is a local and national civic leader who was nominated by President Barack Obama to chair the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships. In that role, she is focused on the issue of Human Trafficking. Susie also serves as the chair of the New York State Commission on National and Community Service and as chair of Global Programs for the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
Susie was a co-creator of the International Lion of Judah Conference and is immediate past national campaign chair of Jewish Federations of North America. She has also previously served as the national chair and president of National Women’s Philanthropy, chair of National Young Leadership Cabinet and chair of the board of UJA-Federation of New York.
Her work has enabled her to visit the Jewish communities of Ethiopia, Cuba, Ukraine, Russia, Argentina, Bulgaria, Turkey, Poland, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Latvia and Belarus. In 1991 she was asked to be one of the eyewitnesses to Operation Solomon, the historic rescue of 14,000 Ethiopian Jews in 23 hours.
She is married to Jeffrey, and together they have two married sons and one grandson.
