Roni Akale
Director-General, Ethopian National Project
Dessie (Roni) Akale, director-general of the Ethiopian National Project, was born in Ethiopia and reached Israel via Sudan in 1983 at the age of 20. He obtained a BA in Social Work from Haifa University in 1990 and an MA in Management and Public Policy Administration from Ben Gurion University. Roni served as a mental health officer in the Israel Defense Forces and then became manager of the nationwide network of moked klitah service centers for immigrants on behalf of the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption. He also has served as director of Ethiopian Job Placement and Counseling with the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption. Roni has held a wide variety of volunteer roles and leadership positions in his rich career of aiding the Ethiopian-Israeli community with his expertise, including chair of the Representatives of Ethiopian Jewish Community Organizations in Israel from 2008 to 2010.
